Is Silent VPN free?
Yes — a free tier is available with no account required. Paid plans add extra capacity/features and are billed through Google Play on Android.
Do I need to create an account?
No. The app generates an anonymous subscriber ID on first launch — no name, email, or phone number required.
Can you see what websites I visit?
No. Your traffic is end-to-end encrypted between your device and the exit server using the Xray protocol (VLESS/REALITY). We don't log destination URLs, DNS queries, or traffic content. See Security & Encryption for details.
Which platforms are supported?
Android and Linux desktop are available today. A Windows desktop build is code-complete and being finished into an installer. macOS is in active development, and iOS is planned. See the Download page for current status per platform.
Why does the Linux version install a background service?
Creating a VPN tunnel on Linux requires elevated (root) privileges to set up network routing — the same reason OpenVPN, WireGuard, and other Linux VPN clients run a privileged background service. It's installed once and doesn't require re-entering a password on every connection.
Why does installing the Android APK show a warning?
Android shows this for any app installed outside Google Play — it's a standard OS-level warning, not specific to Silent VPN. Once the app is published on Google Play, that download option will use the normal Play Store install flow.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Through Google Play: Play Store app → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Silent VPN → Cancel. See the Refund Policy for full details.
What VPN protocol does Silent VPN use?
Xray's VLESS protocol over REALITY or TLS, via the open-source XTLS/libXray engine — not a proprietary or closed-source VPN core.
Is using a VPN legal?
VPNs are legal in most countries, but laws vary — it's your responsibility to know the rules where you are. Silent VPN is a general-purpose privacy/networking tool, and use must comply with our Terms of Service and applicable law.
I reinstalled the app — can I restore my subscription?
Yes. On Android, use the "Restore purchases" option — it looks up your active subscription through your Google Play account and reprovisions the same VPN credentials, no new purchase needed.
